Vieste between sport and tourism: the words of the Mayor Giuseppe Nobiletti It is called the Pearl of the Gargano and it is the queen of the Apulian holidays. Vieste will be the Municipality leader together with Peschici of the exciting adventure of the WMOC 2022 that the world orienteering community is preparing to experience in Gargano from the 8th to the 16th of July. We talked about this with its Mayor Giuseppe Nobiletti.

THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS MEET SCHOOL AND TERRITORY An important process of rooting and spreading the discipline at a regional level was launched thanks to the World Masters Orienteering Championships. Through the project Orienteering! The World Cup meets the School and the Territory was organized a series of initiatives aimed at involving students and training teachers. The programming for the school activities of the Apulian delegation of the Italian Sports Orienteering Federation, financially supported by the WMOC Organizing Committee, covered the entire regional territory. From February to May the Provincial and Regional Finals of the Student Championships in orienteering race were held with the participation of an average of 200 students between middle and high schools in each stage. On Saturday 20th of May in Monopoli there will be the conclusion of this process with the final party for schools on the occasion of World Orienteering Day.

Valerio Casanova, Deutschland und Italien – WMOC2022  Valerio Casanova, Jahrgang 1966, Kategorie H55, aus Ligurien, Sohn einer apulischen Mutter, verheiratet mit Milena Grifoni, Kategorie D50 und ehemalige Athletin der italienischen Nationalmannschaft. Milena ist die Tochter von Sergio, dem ehemaligen Präsidenten des FISO (Italienischer Orientierungslaufverband) und Mitglied verschiedener IOF-Kommissionen.  Geben wir Valerio das Wort, damit er sich selbst vollständig vorstellen kann: Ich habe mit dem Orientierungslauf beinahe “gezwungenermaßen” begonnen: mein erstes Rennen habe ich nach einer einzigen theoretischen Lektion von Sergio bestritten, ein Italiencuplauf in der Kategorie H20 (damals ‘Nationale Qualifikation’ genannt) auf dem Gelände von Santo Stefano d’Aveto, wo ich nach 3 Stunden per Anhalter ankam. Ich weiß nicht, ob es ein Test war, den Sergio für mich vorbereitet hatte, aber irgendwie muss ich bestanden haben. Sowohl Milena als auch ich haben die deutsche Trainerlizenz, und ich habe jetzt auch die Trainer A”-Lizenz, also den Bundestrainer. Seit 2009 trainieren wir in Regensburg eine tolle und sehr starke Gruppe, von der Sie vielleicht schon gehört haben und von der Sie sicher in ein paar Wochen wieder hören werden (z.B. am Sellajoch bei der Relay of the Dolomites, wo wir mit einigen Teams dabei sein werden). 

THE GARGANO NON-HOTEL ASSOCIATION NEW PARTNER OF WMOC 2022 The Gargano Non-Hotel Association, born from the desire of small structures to network for the development of tourism in this wonderful area of ​​Puglia, also takes the field to support the World Masters Orienteering Championships.

Swiss Orienteering at WMOC2022 – Vroni Koenig-Salmi Among the orienteers with an incredible palmares who will be at the start of the 2022 WMOCs in Puglia, Vroni Koenig-Salmi is second to none. 13 world championships in the colours of the Swiss national team from 1989 to 2010  She was the first World and then European Champion in the sprint distance, and she can wear two more world gold medals in the relay at the 2003 and 2005 world championships.

The World Champion Janne Salmi course setter at  WMOC 2022   The name of Janne Salmi is among those universally known to orienteers. Among his victories: Gold medal at WOC 1997 middle distance and Gold medal at WOC 2001 in Relay, 4 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal at WOC, 2 times winner of Jukola with Turun Suunnistajat team (1996 and 2001).

UNA FAMIGLIA SEMPRE IN BUSSOLA In ogni parte del mondo l’orienteering è visto come uno “sport per famiglie”: genitori orientisti che portano i figli a questo sport, figli che si appassionano e che convincono i genitori ad intraprendere una seconda carriera sportiva. Si parla sempre più spesso di orientisti di seconda, terza, addirittura quarta generazione. Tra le famiglie più famose, in Svizzera troviamo la famiglia Guglielmetti che arriverà in Puglia con ben 5 rappresentanti a gareggiare nei WMOC 2022. Abbiamo chiesto ad Elena Guglielmetti, che in Puglia gareggerà in W35, di presentarci la sua famiglia.
