At the Student Championships Puglia is the Italian champion in Trail-O Martina Scarati, Laura Vizzielli, Gennaro Santoro and Nicolai Maria Giancipoli: representing the Grazia Deledda Institute – San Giovanni Bosco di Ginosa in the province of Taranto, they are the 2022 Italian champions of Trail-O! A confirmation for the institute, already titled in 2017 and 2019, the result of a long process of promotion and training for the regional dissemination of the orienteering and Trail-O. A process that, for about 20 years, has involved Apulian teachers, with regular technical courses to acquire the qualification to teach the discipline, and students, through the activation of extracurricular projects to love this sport and test in the Student Championships.

THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS MEET SCHOOL AND TERRITORY An important process of rooting and spreading the discipline at a regional level was launched thanks to the World Masters Orienteering Championships. Through the project Orienteering! The World Cup meets the School and the Territory was organized a series of initiatives aimed at involving students and training teachers. The programming for the school activities of the Apulian delegation of the Italian Sports Orienteering Federation, financially supported by the WMOC Organizing Committee, covered the entire regional territory. From February to May the Provincial and Regional Finals of the Student Championships in orienteering race were held with the participation of an average of 200 students between middle and high schools in each stage. On Saturday 20th of May in Monopoli there will be the conclusion of this process with the final party for schools on the occasion of World Orienteering Day.

Valerio Casanova, Deutschland und Italien – WMOC2022  Valerio Casanova, Jahrgang 1966, Kategorie H55, aus Ligurien, Sohn einer apulischen Mutter, verheiratet mit Milena Grifoni, Kategorie D50 und ehemalige Athletin der italienischen Nationalmannschaft. Milena ist die Tochter von Sergio, dem ehemaligen Präsidenten des FISO (Italienischer Orientierungslaufverband) und Mitglied verschiedener IOF-Kommissionen.  Geben wir Valerio das Wort, damit er sich selbst vollständig vorstellen kann: Ich habe mit dem Orientierungslauf beinahe “gezwungenermaßen” begonnen: mein erstes Rennen habe ich nach einer einzigen theoretischen Lektion von Sergio bestritten, ein Italiencuplauf in der Kategorie H20 (damals ‘Nationale Qualifikation’ genannt) auf dem Gelände von Santo Stefano d’Aveto, wo ich nach 3 Stunden per Anhalter ankam. Ich weiß nicht, ob es ein Test war, den Sergio für mich vorbereitet hatte, aber irgendwie muss ich bestanden haben. Sowohl Milena als auch ich haben die deutsche Trainerlizenz, und ich habe jetzt auch die Trainer A”-Lizenz, also den Bundestrainer. Seit 2009 trainieren wir in Regensburg eine tolle und sehr starke Gruppe, von der Sie vielleicht schon gehört haben und von der Sie sicher in ein paar Wochen wieder hören werden (z.B. am Sellajoch bei der Relay of the Dolomites, wo wir mit einigen Teams dabei sein werden).

Paolo Beltraminelli – “Ticino at WMOC2022”   The Italian edition of Wikipedia contains 55 entries on orienteering athletes. The list of names obviously includes Thierry Gueorgiou and Simone Niggli-Luder, Tove Alexandersson and Olav Lundanes. There is also an entry for Ivar Formo, Olympic champion in Innsbruck 1976 in the 50 km cross-country race and bronze medalist in the 1974 WOC relay race.
