ON JULY 12 MONTE SANT’ANGELO – SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO AND SAN MARCO IN LAMIS

The tour begins with a visit to Monte Sant’Angelo and its characteristic Basilica of San Michele (UNESCO heritage). Together we will visit the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Maggiore admiring its Byzantine frescoes, counted among the oldest in the entire Region and the Sanctuary dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel built on the natural Grotto (UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011). The visit will continue with a pleasant walk through the white alleys of the historic center where you will have the opportunity to get to know one of the famous Sammecalere, a local craftsman who still today he carves statuettes depicting the patron saint with the utmost precision using local stone. A visit to the workshop of the local craftsman Palena is planned, whose works in stone, wood and leather are appreciated by visitors and onlookers who come here from everywhere.

The third stage and heart of our visit involves the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, after having faced a real journey through the centuries from the first apparition of the saint (5th century) to the present day. It will be time to have a lunch in the best restaurants of the place based on typical dishes with local products. The tour continues in the afternoon with a visit to the church of San Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, we will discover the Gargano of the present by visiting San Giovanni Rotondo. We will visit the two churches of San Giovanni Rotondo retracing the moments of the Saint’s life. Lying in a valley, just under 30 km from Monte Sant’Angelo, the small village of San Marco in Lamis rises among the hills of the Gargano National Park. Medieval suggestions permeate the small village, which is gathered around the Sanctuary of San Matteo. San Marco is the only town in the Capitanata to be crossed by the Via Sacra dei Longobardi which, in addition to the Convent, also touches the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Stignano. Return to Vieste in the late afternoon.

ON JULY 15 THE DAUNIA DOC WINE ROUTE

The Daunia Doc wine route develops along a territory of great gastronomic and wine-growing tradition in a land of luxuriant nature. San Severo is one of the main wine-growing centers in Dauni, once the seat of the governor of Capitanata and of the Contado del Molise. The historic center retains the splendid Baroque Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. Also of great interest is the visit to the Alto Tavoliere Museum which illustrates the history of the area using archaeological finds and photographic material. You cannot skip the visit to the Verdi Theater, the most beautiful Italian-style theater in Puglia.

Basically San Severo represents the Daunian winemaking tradition. Imagine an underground world the size of a city of over 50,000 inhabitants, a maze of cool, breezy tunnels where the walls are completely covered in bottles of wine. This is the underground San Severo, that of the underground cellars (there are 540 throughout the city!). We visited the historic cellar “PISAN – BATTEL”. We move to TORREMAGGIORE, where the Sacco VIGNAIOLI APULI company awaits us. His dream was to give an oenological identity to his land, not yet fully exploited, in the city of Torremaggiore he is a pioneer. Along the SS89 you reach Apricena located between the Tavoliere and the Gargano. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the presence of vineyards, olive groves and quarries from which the world-famous and widely exported stone is extracted. In the historic center, the Baronial Palace and the Parish of San Martino are worth a visit. We will visit CANTINE LE GROTTE, here we will make a delicious aperitif “reinforced” with all the local delicacies. Return to Vieste in the late afternoon.

The price is 70 euros per person and includes (minimum 45 people):
